Frequent fliers who live out of suitcases and eat alone in hotel bars complain often that their solitary, transient lifestyle makes it harder to date, let alone nurture a relationship. But experts agree that the consultant’s carpe diem approach is ideal for finding love in the air.
“There are two types of people: the ones who take advantage of every opportunity to meet somebody and others who go on automatic pilot as soon as they board,” says P.J. Osgood, a franchise owner with It’s Just Lunch, which sets up drink dates for busy professionals worldwide.

“Many singles who run their own firms…work so much they don’t have time to find a mate — and often without someone waiting on the other side of the dinner table (or bed), there’s no incentive to shut down the computer and go home. One increasingly attractive option is outsourcing the task to matchmaking services. It’s Just Lunch- It plans everything, down to when and where you meet. What happens: Once staff members find a good match, they’ll tell you about your date, coordinate your schedules, and select a nice spot for lunch or drinks. You take it from there — continue dating that person or ask the staff for someone more outgoing, taller, etc.”

“It’s prom season. Nightmare time for any young man. I know — I was one once. Unlike my brother, who had a girlfriend from kindergarten on, I never really ‘dated’ in high school. Never had a steady. I was still trying to figure out who I was, but prom season has never cared much about introspection. Come spring, you needed a date, a white dinner jacket and a corsage. And so I fell in line with the rest of the lads. For me, as for many, I suspect, prom night always was first-date night…It’s Just Lunch, a national dating service, has just come out with ‘must-know’ tips for first dates. They translate nicely to prom nights, too. Far too late for me now, of course, but I was curious to see what they were and how close I came to using them to assure my date that oh-so-perfect prom evening.”
